Board your “Folklorama” coach for a trip that will take
you around the world without leaving North America.
Folklorama is a grand celebration of Winnipeg’s cultural
diversity with its over 80 ethnic groups that provide
fun and excitement during your stay. But first,
your adventure begins with a stop at the Redlin Art
Center in Watertown, SD. Housed in a colonial-style
four-story brick building, supported by 24 granite columns,
the Center is home to more than 155 oil paintings
of wildlife and Americana by artist Terry Redlin.
You’ve seen his work on prints and in many forms, now
see his original paintings in person. Meet your fellow
travelmates for a get-acquainted dinner hosted by Fun
Tours.
Day Two – Paddlewheel Queen Luncheon
Cruise/Folklorama Tour Guide/3 Folklorama
Pavilions (DCB, L, D)
This morning, make your way through North Dakota to
our friendly neighbor to the north, Canada. You are traveling to a foreign country, even though it doesn’t seem like it. Upon arrival, board the Paddlewheel Queen for a relaxing afternoon luncheon cruise on the Red River. Then, check into your hotel for a little “R & R” before an exciting evening at Folklorama. Your costumed guide will greet you and escort you to three Folklorama Pavilions this evening. At each, you will sample the local food of the country, see its crafts, and experience a show that depicts the folklore and culture of the country. It will be an evening of entertainment and fun as you learn so much about the world and its people.
Day Three -- Royal Canadian Mint/Forks National
Historic Site/Forks Market/Johnson Terminal/
Manitoba Museum/3 Folklorama Pavilions
(DCB, D)
This morning, your local guide will take you on a tour to help you get to know Winnipeg up close. You’ll experience the vitality, and history of the neighborhoods that have made Winnipeg such a diverse
city. Stops include the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden, English Flower Gardens, and the St. Boniface Cathedral. A very interesting stop is the Royal Canadian Mint where you’ll take a guided tour to see how they mint Canadian coins. You’ll even get to hold a $500,000 gold bar! Then, head over to the Forks National Historic Site for a bit of shopping and free time. The Forks is a 13 ½ acre park which encompasses open green spaces, a tree-lined river walkway, beautiful views and two excellent shopping destinations – the Folks Market and the Johnson Terminal. You’ll have fun at your stay at the Forks. This afternoon, visit the award-winning Manitoba Museum which tells the story of Manitoba from north to south. From the Arctic Coast to the prairie grasslands, a guided tour will help you explore the life of the residents of Manitoba. This evening, again your costumed guide will take you on a journey around the world to three more exciting Folklorama Pavilions.
Day Four – Historical & Cultural Center/
Hjemkomst Viking Ship/Global Electric Motor
Car Manufacturing Facility (DCB, D)
Head back into the good ol’ USA and stop in Fargo once again. This time, you’ll take some time to explore the fun sites in the area. Your first stop is the Historical and Cultural Center which depicts the history of the area to include a Norwegian Stave Church with beautiful, intricate wood carvings, and the Hjemkomst Viking Ship which sailed to Norway in 1982. Then, visit the historic Fargo Theatre that has been restored to its 1937 art-deco splendor. I bet you didn’t know that the dilly bar originated in Fargo, and you’ll stop at a Dairy Queen to commemorate this popular ice-cream treat. Finally, tour the Global Electric Motor Car Manufacturing Facility to see how they develop, produce and sell the world’s most environmentally-friendly vehicles. Check into your hotel for a little “R & R” before one final dinner this evening with your travel friends.
