Day 2 Amtrak to Glenwood Springs/Hot Springs Pool (B,D)
All aboooard! Board Amtrak for one of the
most spectacular scenic train rides in the
U.S. Travel over trestles, through the Mof-
fit Tunnel, through deep canyon gorges
and along steep canyon walls as you make
your way to Glenwood Springs. It will be a
fantastic day of “trainin’.” Upon arrival in
Glenwood Springs, you’ll be ready to soak
in one of the largest hot spring pools in
the country. After all, sitting on the train
all day might make you feel stiff - the Hot
Springs Pool will melt those aches away.
The pool is 405 ft. long and 100 ft. wide.
It contains over 1 million gallons of water
and is kept at about 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
There are over 15 different minerals that
have been proven to be very therapeutic.
Then, check into one of the most historic
hotels in the Rockies - the Hotel Colorado.
The Hotel Colorado was the favorite
vacation destination of President Teddy Roosevelt. Built in 1893, the hotel has hosted such celebrities as Diamond Jack, the Unsinkable Molly Brown and Doc Holiday. According to legend, the world’s most irresistible toy, the Teddy Bear, received its birth at the Hotel Colorado after an unsuccessful day of hunting by President Roosevelt. This evening, enjoy dinner with your fellow travel mates at the hotel. If you like, you can go back to the Hot Springs Pool as your evening is at leisure.
Day 3 Float Trip/Glenwood Caverns/Hot Springs Pool (L,D)
This morning, get ready for a “soft adventure”
when you take a scenic float trip
on the Colorado River. The scenery will
be unbelievable when you experience it
from the river. Enjoy lunch following your
float trip. This afternoon will be yours
at leisure to stroll downtown, frequent
some of the quaint shops, or just relax
back at the hotel. Later today, take a ride
on the Iron Mountain Tramway where
you’ll experience a towering panoramic
view of the spectacular Rocky Mountains.
Skim over the tops of the trees to the top
of Iron Mountain. Next, take a tour of
the Glenwood Caverns for a fascinating
blend of education and entertainment.
The one-hour walking tour is suitable for
all ages, and your journey will take you
on a voyage into the pristine underground
world formed millions of years ago. You’ll
be amazed at the barn and King’s Row,
gigantic rooms deep within the earth, and
other worldly cave formations such as soda
straws, stalactites, stalagmites and cave
bacon still alive and growing! Then, enjoy
a delicious dinner at the restaurant on
the top of Iron Mountain with beautiful
panoramic views of Glenwood Springs
and the Colorado River. Then, head back down the mountain on the tram for an evening at leisure at your beautiful Hotel Colorado. If you like, you can go back to the Hot Springs Pool again for another dip in the mineral springs.
